Systems Engineer – Uppsala

About this role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and technically minded systems engineer to contribute to our design of state-of-the-art satellite subsystems, with an emphasis on electronics and software engineering.

The purpose of the role is to translate mission objectives into robust, verifiable system designs, enabling the delivery of reliable and high-performance small satellite missions.  It involves applying systems thinking, ensuring our products and missions functions cohesively while meeting safety, technical, schedule and commercial objectives.

The candidate should show strong aptitude, share our enthusiasm for systems engineering for space applications with evidence of reasonable industry experience.  This is a full-time role for a Systems Engineer, or with other relevant experience, who can work to deliver our next range of subsystems for satellite projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Space related subsystems concept design & trade studies
  • Perform role of systems technical lead for new product development, co-ordinating inputs from other engineering disciplines
  • Define, manage, and verify system and mission requirements, ensuring traceability and compliance across all project phases.
  • Apply and promote a systems engineering mindset, ensuring designs balance performance, risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Define and manage interfaces between our products and customer spacecraft platforms
  • Communicate regular technical updates to the customer(s)
  • Support Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) campaigns, including EM, QM, and FM spacecraft build phases.
  • Define concept of operations to control and operate the Spacecraft systems
  • Contribute to business development and proposal activities, supporting technical specification, feasibility assessment, and concept generation.
  • Technical input to bid and proposal work, supporting business growth.
  • Manage and develop the company Systems Engineering approach
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders and their expectations to ensure their continued support

Skills required:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Relevant experience as a Systems Engineer within the space industry or a similar high‑technology sector
  • Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of electronics and/or software engineering
  • Collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams, fostering a shared sense of ownership to deliver on time, on budget and to quality standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities — capable of bridging technical and programmatic discussion as well as requirements elicitation and expectation management
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise self and prioritise workload of multiple projects in dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
  • Awareness of Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Test (DfT) principles
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft software.
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written.
  • EU citizenship

Skills desired:

  • Knowledge or awareness of ECSS standards (or equivalent international standards relevant to Space engineering)
  • Experience with 1 or more of the software items below:
    • Requirements management tools, i.e. IBM DOORS, Valispace or similar
    • CAD software, e. g. SolidWorks
    • Numerical computing environments, i.e. MATLAB, Python
  • Model based Systems Engineering
  • Previous experience of working with small/medium sized company
