It’s not just about knowing how to run a method — it’s about understanding why it works.
Turning Data into Insight
As an Earth Observation Analyst, Anushka’s role centres on extracting value from satellite imagery.
“I work with satellite data to create insights and visuals for environmental and maritime projects,” she explains. “That includes analysing imagery to detect patterns or changes, turning results into visuals, and creating outputs for clients.”
No two weeks are the same. She balances multiple projects, analysing datasets for one client, preparing deliverables for another, and continuously refining workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
It’s a role that sits at the intersection of science, technology, and storytelling.
Precision That Powers Results
One of the most challenging aspects of Anushka’s role is also one of the most critical: attention to detail.
“Some tasks can be very meticulous, like carrying out detailed QA on training datasets or analytical outputs. It requires patience and precision.”
But that effort pays off.
“When it’s done properly, it’s really rewarding — you can clearly see how that careful work strengthens the final deliverable.”
From Curiosity to Career
With a background in Biology and GIS, moving into Earth Observation felt like a natural step.
“The space industry always felt exciting to me, and Earth Observation stood out because it’s incredible that we can study and monitor our planet from space.”
A long-standing interest in science fiction also played a role.
“I’ve always loved things like Star Wars and anything to do with space and aliens, so working in this field feels like a very real extension of that curiosity.”
Understanding the “Why”
One of the biggest lessons Anushka has learned is the importance of deeper understanding.
“It’s not just about knowing how to run a method, it’s about understanding why it works.”
By connecting technical approaches to real-world problems, she ensures outputs are both accurate and meaningful.
“That deeper understanding of the problem and all its factors leads to stronger, more reliable solutions.”
Collaboration Across Teams
Based in London, Anushka works closely with colleagues across AAC Clyde Space.
“I often collaborate with teams in Glasgow, particularly satellite operations and commercial teams, to support customer-facing deliverables.”
This cross-site collaboration helps ensure insights are aligned with both mission operations and customer needs.
“It’s a very connected environment.”
A Team Built on Shared Knowledge
Within the Earth Observation team, collaboration is key.
“My team has deep expertise in space data, and I really enjoy solving challenges together. Everyone brings a slightly different perspective — whether from geospatial analysis or software development.”
That mix of skills leads to more creative and effective solutions.
“It’s motivating to work in a group where learning from each other is part of the process.”
Making an Environmental Impact
One of Anushka’s most rewarding experiences so far has been contributing to the Canopy project for Scottish forestry.
“The product helps identify stressed trees using satellite imagery, supporting more informed forest management.”
By using satellite data to replace more traditional monitoring methods, the project demonstrates the tangible impact of Earth Observation.
“It’s rewarding to be part of something that has real environmental value.”
Advice for Future Space Professionals
For those interested in joining the space sector, Anushka highlights its diversity.
“There are so many roles beyond what people typically imagine. Find what genuinely interests you and look for where it intersects with space, there’s likely a place for your skills.”
She also emphasises the importance of adaptability.
“It’s a fast-growing and evolving industry, so being open to learning is key.”
Not Everyone Builds Rockets
One common misconception about working in space?
“We aren’t all building rockets!”
From data analysis to software and services, the industry depends on a wide range of expertise.
Inspiration Beyond Work
Outside of work, Anushka finds inspiration in people and purpose.
“I’m inspired by reading about intelligent women in STEM, both past and present, and learning about their journeys.”
She’s also involved in community activism, drawing motivation from others working to create positive change.
Looking Ahead
Anushka is excited about the future of AAC Clyde Space’s Data and Services offering.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing this side of the business continue to grow and evolve. As our capabilities expand, I hope we can develop even more impactful Earth Observation products and services.”
