About this role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design, analyse and develop satellite ADCS components such as reaction wheels, star trackers, sun sensors

Work assignments will include structural/thermal analysis, create and review engineering drawings, mechanical environmental testing support such as vibration, quasi static, thermal, shock and engage with both suppliers and customers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Mechanical design of ADCS components and support of new R&D projects
  • Structural and thermal analysis of subsystems (e.g. ADCS)
  • Develop and maintain technical design documentation including requirements capture, technical descriptions and user manuals
  • Interaction with supply chain to source components at appropriate cost, timescale and quality
  • Support to manufacturing, integration and test and reviewing the AIT manuals
  • Deliver the company’s projects allocated to budget, schedule, and quality constraints.
  • Contribute towards information flow to project teams and other stakeholders
  • Ensure project is delivered within all statutory legal and procedural requirements.

Skills Required:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in applicable technical environment.
  • At least five years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD systems
  • Understanding of structural and/or thermal design and analysis principles
  • Practical experience of using FEM analysis tools
  • Able to manage time, work within a multicultural team and work independently
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and progress several projects in parallel
  • Demonstrates effective decision-making
  • Ability to work flexibly including supporting tasks outside core competence
  • Communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Competent IT skills and with Microsoft software

Skills Desirable:

  • Experience in spacecraft engineering
  • Experience with ADCS subsystems
  • Experience of designing for robustness/ life-time of components
  • Experience with qualification testing (e.g. TVAC, vibration, shock and proton testing)
  • Working knowledge of ECSS standards and experience of ESA processes
  • Experience with NASA General Environmental Verification Standard (GEVS)
  • Understanding of PCB design and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with working in a cleanroom
  • Experience in working with other engineering fields like optics, electrical, software
  • Experience in mentoring, developing others and sharing knowledge
